I can laugh at this video now ... but it wasn't too long ago that I would have cringed. The video uses funny Aussie cartoon characters in a TV interview set up discussing how a particular company communicates to the company staff.
In recent memory EMC, too, used many of these innovative techniques to "engage" our folks in the strategy, culture and opportunity -- email, powerpoint, executive summits, newsletters, meetings. Aren't you excited just reading about these engaging vehicles?!
It is a new world now. Web 2.0 behaviors, global perspectives and activities; social networks; and just a general air of openness is taking over here.
Example -- I love that our India Center of Excellence holds "Bar Jams." What is a Bar Jam? It is when you tell everyone to arrive at a bar at a certain time. Then drink and brainstorm ideas. How cool is that?
Example -- One of our folks started a string in our social network with the question "Are You Proud to Work at EMC?" The answers are remarkable and heart warming. When reading what folks are saying, you won't see one reference to an email, newsletter or powerpoint.
We do sophisticated stuff too -- but I just love that everything isn't so serious and buttoned down any more. Things like Bar Jams, Radio Shows, Social Networks, Tea Times, Softball Tournes, and Chinese Food at midnight are just a lot more fun than any email or powerpoint I've ever seen.
THANK YOU Larry Lawfer of Your Storys for calling my attention to this video (via Twitter). Larry knows how to do it right, too.
What do you think?
